The Cederberg region is one of the best areas for ancient San (Bushmen) rock art in the world, with over 2,500 discovered sites (compared to 280 in France and Spain combined) - a number of which are easily accessible. With a sense of wonder you follow a trail to some of the ancient rock paintings of the San people, the first inhabitants of the Cape. You view these delicate paintings, flowing with movement and life, in their natural surroundings with no milling crowds to spoil your quiet enchantment. Here you are introduced not only to the life and culture of the San but also to the natural beauty of their homeland. Short booklets describing some of the best sites are available at Clanwilliam Tourism Bureau. (027-482 2024)
Please note that it is strictly forbidden to touch the rock art or disturb the sights in any way.
